George II Mahogany Bachelor’s Chest of Drawers with Brushing Slide, Circa 1750
A George II period mahogany bachelor’s chest of drawers of compact and well-balanced proportions, dating from the mid-18th century. This practical and appealing form features a pull-out brushing slide inset with a green leather skiver decorated with a tooled border, above four graduated drawers, making it well suited to use in a bedroom, study or dressing room.
Constructed predominantly in mahogany, the chest retains a pleasing Georgian outline and stands on shaped bracket feet beneath a moulded base. The drawers are oak-lined, with bases running front to back, consistent with 18th-century cabinetmaking practice, and the overall proportions give the piece a grounded, purposeful presence.
The top displays a naturally aged surface with good colour, and the chest as a whole has the quiet character and usability expected of a genuine mid-18th-century piece. Its modest scale makes it particularly suitable for modern interiors where original Georgian furniture of manageable proportions is increasingly sought after.
